Perspective

As I see it, you have one of two choices as you drive down the highway in your second phase of life. Option one; you can keep your eyes focused in the rearview mirror recalling all the past experiences and visuals of a life past. Option two; you can remain focused ahead anticipating what lies before you at every turn. I’m not here to argue that one option is better than the other. It’s just a matter of perspective. For me, I’m not the nostalgic kind. That doesn’t mean that I don’t have fond memories of my kids growing up and those watershed events of life. But to be honest, my memory is not that good and I don’t ever lament about times past other than opportunities lost to live my life to the fullest. For me, moving forward in life means shedding the weight of the past so that I can enter the second phase at full speed. Tangible objects as reminders of life past mean nothing to me; they are seen as distractions to my ability to reach full potential. Pay respect to you past life; however, throw things out and surround yourself with only those things that inspire you for the future. What ever sparks your passion, do it! For me, I’ve just begun exploring and the past provides few guideposts in my journey. I honestly believe that’s what my kids want for me. They’ve already moved on, so should I.
