I had just texted my eldest son on the West Coast announcing that I had concluded my organization’s 32nd Annual Board of Directors Meeting.  With the reality of this milestone sinking in, I followed up with another text, “what am I going to do for The Next 32?” As a sixty year old, this question may appear a little presumptuous.  After all, the black dog of mortality is driving many men like me to seek fast cars, young women and a new hair color.  Even if these options interested me, my bank account and pride keeps me from following these urges. Unlike some of my brethren, I believe the best is yet to come, professionally and personally.  What the “best” is and how do I achieve it are the big questions.

My purpose in writing about this journey is not to lament (e.g. whine) about opportunities lost or injustices rendered against me by others.  In my opinion, these questions are fundamental to men of my ilk. Our respective journeys, thoughts and feelings should be shared.  Yes, this digital journal is for men.   We are different, we think different, we feel different, and we definitely behave different (sorry).  That’s not to say that we all think, feel and behave similarly.  It’s just that we’re different. I think my wife would attest to the fact that I am different, if not outright wacked.  Quite frankly, I’m fine with that.

This journal will touch on many issues ranging from careers, fashion, lifestyles, marriage, fatherhood, hobbies, the economy, and communities.  No issue or topic is off limits.  The journey begins now and the path is not well defined.  Although I have no problem with solo journeys, I invite others to join me.  A good conversation during a long walk can be invigorating. I’m really looking forward to The Next 32.

So What!
