Art of Seeing

Our take on the world is a matter of optics. It seems that most people are waiting for things to get back to “normal”. While “Waiting for Godot”, the populace grows increasingly angry from their impatience. We wreak havoc in our public dialogue, whether it is online, in community forums, or in the voting booth. Until the reset button is pushed and the old days return, the downward trajectory of our mindset does not foretell better days. What to do?
In my opinion, people have lost the art of seeing. As we’re fed disturbing stories ad pictures by the media, we seem to believe all the doom and gloom. We now wear glasses with filters that prevent us from seeing all the good things and amazing opportunities afforded to us as individuals and as a society. The facts speak for themselves; the world is safer than it has ever been. As the unyielding gatekeepers fall from the onslaught of digitalization, we have the opportunities to strike out on our own and build a life that we craft and that speaks to our uniqueness. Hell, this is a great time to be alive.
Now, don’t take me as being Pollyannaish. Many institutions still stand in our way due to their protection by self-serving political elites and powerful economic interests. In time, they too will have no choice but change as the world and its people will demand it. Ugly things still happen, frequently a consequence of greed, bigotry and hatred. Although we should not turn a blind eye to these problems, neither should we allow them to blind us to all the good things and opportunities. For those who develop the art of seeing, the path forward is paved in gold. It’s not an easy path to walk as setbacks and even failures lurk around every bend. But, removing our filters, looking forward and observing the emerging new world can excite even the dullest of us. Welcome to the new world where success is as much a byproduct of giving as it is the legacy transactional economy. This is a much better way to see the world. Godspeed to all of you and happy travels.
