Experiment by Doing

I referenced in an earlier post the statement, “you are measured less by what you accomplish than what you started.” If that’s my ultimate measuring stick, then my life will be judged as a complete success. I’m constantly trying new things and I frequently view this behavior through the filter of negativity. Maybe its because nothing has really stuck. Maybe its because I’ve never excelled in anything. In order to be considered a Renaissance man you actually have to excel at the many things you try. Since I’m clearly not a Renaissance man based on this definition, maybe I’m just a tinkerer or an older male suffering from attention deficit disorder.

I need to change my optics. My propensity to constantly experiment with new things is not a character defect. I am searching and the success of this search is predicated on doing, not thinking. Every new street I walk down, every corner I take, is an opportunity to learn more about myself. It’s a lonely journey because those who are closest to me just don’t understand. Even when I attempt to share what I’m feeling, I get those looks where I know friends and family really are not listening. Keep exploring my friends. Put in the hard work and effort required to fully test your new ventures. This journey is fundamental to your long-term mental and financial health. That’s why I started this online journal, to share my feelings and experiences with those who are on the same journey. A few friends to share the road with, even if it’s digitally, can lighten our load.
